UWNC Director Visits NC Lawmakers in Washington, DC

This week from July 23-25, United Way Worldwide held an Advocacy Forum and Capitol Hill Day, bringing together over 150 United Way leaders to take part in advocacy trainings, hold meetings with federal and state legislators, and network with one another over best practices on policies they're addressing in their respective communities.

United Way of North Carolina (UWNC) was represented at the gathering by Ed Bonilla, Director of Mission Advancement. Bonilla oversees the grant processes and policy implementations, regularly meeting with our state's senior officials to educate them and earn their support on the work UWNC and our 48 local United Ways are doing to make positive change in North Carolina.

During the week, Bonilla met with members of our congress, such as District 13 Congressman Wiley Nickel (pictured below on left), to share with them about programs which United Way supports, such as the farm bill reauthorization, the child tax credit and earned income tax credit, and 211.

All in all, it was a successful week of strengthening partnerships between United Way colleagues and elected officials, discussing important programs and movements United Way is working tirelessly on to implement or improve.
