CARY, NC — United Way of North Carolina (UWNC) is proud to announce the launch of its UW Helps NC Fund, an initiative designed to support both immediate and long-term recovery efforts in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. The Duke Energy Foundation is making a generous donation of $100,000 to the Governor’s NC Disaster Relief Fund, a state fund which is also managed by United Way of North Carolina. This partnership with the Governor's Office and Duke Energy Foundation has matched UWNC’s fundraising efforts, doubling what has been raised to date, thanks to the collective giving power of our community.
“During times of crisis, our strength lies in unity,” said Brittany Pruitt Fletcher, President and CEO of United Way of North Carolina. “We are deeply grateful for the swift response and generosity of our partners at the Duke Energy Foundation. As fellow first responders, they understand the unique challenges disasters present and the urgent need to support our efforts in deploying resources effectively. Our hearts go out to the residents who are struggling; we have heard from many individuals running low on food and water. These funds will enable us to provide essential resources as quickly as possible.”
As North Carolinians come together during this time of disaster, UWNC is committed to assisting those in need. These two funds combined will provide critical resources for relief efforts, addressing the extensive devastation caused by Hurricane Helene across multiple local communities. UWNC also manages NC 211, a multilingual and confidential service that provides real time information and resources to individuals in crisis. NC 211, in combination with local United Way programs and partners, works collaboratively to ensure our residents’ greatest needs are met, year-round, but especially during a disaster.
“We are deeply committed to helping all impacted North Carolina communities through this crisis,” said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy North Carolina state president. “Our hope is that these matching funds will inspire others to join us in supporting our neighbors during this devastating time.”
