As North Carolina moves from response to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, United Way partners have led the way by addressing critical needs and making investments in communities to ensure everyone thrives. On March 1st, United Way of North Carolina will honor 75 organizations representing 22 local United Ways through their virtual 2021 Spirit of North Carolina Awards event.
For more than 25 years, the Spirit of North Carolina award has celebrated organizations for their campaign excellence achieved through impactful events, engaged leadership, and volunteerism. This year, organizations championing DEI values and post-pandemic rebuilding efforts will also be celebrated.
“The Spirit of North Carolina Award gives our United Way network an opportunity to acknowledge organizations who have served as collaborative partners, impacting their communities in extraordinary ways.” said Laura Marx, President & CEO of United Way of North Carolina “We congratulate all of the companies and United Way organizations who have worked hard amidst challenges to ensure that their neighbors receive the help they need.”
Award categories include: Investment in Long-Term Sustainable Impact, Leading Through the DEI Lens, Post-Pandemic Champion, Campaign/Engagement Success, Most Impactful Kickoff/Campaign Event, Building Momentum/Sustainability Through Engaged Leadership, and Building a Legacy of Community Engagement Through Volunteerism. Organizations were nominated by United Ways and chosen based on their exemplary work and leadership aligned to award criteria.
“2021 required flexibility and ingenuity when planning fundraising campaigns and events,” said Marx. “The creativity displayed by Spirit of North Carolina winners is astounding and we have been excited to see organizations operate in new and unique ways to positively effect families across our state.”
