United Way of North Carolina announced that HanesBrands has been awarded the Excellence in Community Spirit Award. For more than 24 years, United Way of North Carolina has recognized companies and organizations who have demonstrated exceptional community investment in North Carolina through their Spirit of North Carolina Award process
COVID-19 has impacted thousands of North Carolinians physically, financially, and emotionally. Keeping children, teachers and school staff safe during the school year continues to be a challenge that United Ways across the nation have prioritized.
Hanesbrands is a leading global marketer of branded everyday basic apparel and was the first company to join the great American Mask Challenge in December 2020. As a NC Company, they of course started the work right here in the state. Hanes committed to donating 25 million masks to the Challenge so that every Title I school in North Carolina received 3 masks for each student, teacher, and staff.
Hanes has worked in tandem with United Way Worldwide and local United Ways to distribute masks in an efficient way. United Way of Forsyth County can attest to the strong community partnership of HanesBrands.
Cindy Gordineer, President and CEO of United Way of Forsyth County says “Hanesbrands has always been a strong partner of United Way and the community as a whole. Their generous support with this mask initiative will help ensure our school children, teachers, staff and our most vulnerable residents have masks to help keep them safe and slow the spread of COVID-19."
This partnership with Hanes moved well beyond the borders of North Carolina and has had national impact that will keep students, teachers and staff safe as they return to school.
“It is an honor to present the Excellence in Community Spirit award to HanesBrands and shine a light on their commitment to serve North Carolinians, especially during COVID-19.” says Laura Marx, President and CEO of United Way of North Carolina.
United Way of North Carolina will honor HanesBrands at their virtual Annual Meeting on March 3rd. For more information about the Spirit of North Carolina Award and a complete list of winners, visit unitedwaync.org/spirit-north-carolina-award-winners.
